New guidance on social value and the Compact published

Compact Voice has published a new guide which provides an easy-to-understand overview of social value and the Public Services (Social Value) Act. 
The guide provides practical case studies and actions for commissioning authorities and voluntary organisations to take, as well as explaining what is covered by the Social Value Act, how it relates to the Compact, how to demonstrate social value and create a strategy for doing so.

New project to give patients, public and VCS a voice on NHS England

NHS England has developed a new project called NHS Citizen, which aims to enable engagement and communication with the public, patients and voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations. 

Short briefing on Judicial Review changes published


Compact Voice have produced a short, two page briefing on some of the changes that were proposed to the process of Judicial Review.
The briefing intends to be an easy-to-understand overview of what is a relatively complex legal area, and one which can have an impact on voluntary and community organisations - particularly those that campaign on the behalf of their service users.

The Cabinet Office have published a useful update on the the Public Services (Social Value) Act - which came into place in January 2013.

Latest on the Open Government Partnership National Action Plan

Over the course of last year, Compact Voice have worked closely with a variety of government departments and other voluntary sector organisations to help develop the UK's Open Government Partnership (OGP).
The UK representatives have just published a new report exploring lessons learnt while developing their National Action Plan, with a view to sharing what they have learnt with the other countries involved in the partnership.

Draft Guidance on Transparency for local authorities: Compact Voice response

The Department for Communities and Local Government have published their draft 'Code of Recommended Practice for Local Authorities on Data Transparency'.
Late last year, we responded to DCLG's consultation looking at turning guidelines regarding data transparency into regulations.
DCLG welcomed comments on the newly published draft following the consultation, and you can read Compact Voice's response below.

The Panel on the Independence of the Voluntary Sector have published their latest report.
Compact Voice gave evidence at a session leading up to its publication last year, and the report draws on our research and Annual Survey Report.

Chris Frost posthumously awarded an MBE

Chris Frost, who sadly passed away in November, was posthumously awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List. Chris was a long standing member of Compact Voice's board and was a passionate advocate of partnership working and the voluntary sector.

Compact Voice write to Francis Maude about recent consultation timeframes

Simon Blake OBE, chair of Compact Voice, has written to the Minister for the Cabinet Office, Francis Maude. The letter highlights that despite government's continued commitment to encouraging open and transparent decision making, several recent consultations have contradicted this. 

We have published the letter online, which encourages government to engage meaningfully when consulting, and offers a number of solutions to encourage this.

Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner signs up to local Compact

Richard Rhodes, Cumbria's PCC (pictured), has signed up to the Cumbria Compact. Signing up to a local Compact is a great way for PCCs to engage with their local voluntary and community sector, and we'd encourage others to follow his example.
