Compact implementation prominent in government business plans

Government departmental business plans for 2013-14 have now been published, and for the second year running, the Compact is included as a cross-departmental priority.

The plans outline how respective departments will be implementing the Compact and working in partnership with the voluntary and community sector. Compact Voice is pleased that the Compact is prominent in many departmental plans – several have included tangible, positive activities which they will be undertaking to strengthen their relationship with the voluntary sector through the Compact.

 Compact Voice's third annual survey of local Compacts is now open. The survey will allow us to gather vital information about the health of local Compacts across England.

Government's first Social Value Ambassador appointed

It has been announced today that Chris White MP will become the government's first Social Value Act ambassador.

White, who authored the original Act, will be working closely with Local Authorities and the voluntary sector to raise awareness of the Public Services (Social Value) Act, which came into force earlier this year.

Guidance on maintaining the independence of local Healthwatch published

On 1 April 2013, local Healthwatch organisations became responsible for promoting the patient and public voice.

Healthwatch England have worked with Compact Voice to produce a guidance note, outlining how local Healthwatch can maintain their independence.

Compact principles ‘high priority’ for Ministry of Justice’s ‘Transforming Rehabilitation’ agenda

Commitment to the Compact has been accepted as a ‘high priority’ for the Ministry of Justice's ‘Transforming Rehabilitation’ agenda following a report from 3SC.

The report was published in March after MoJ commissioned the organisation to devise an action plan to "set out what voluntary and community sector organisations need to do in order to overcome the barriers which prevent them from competing in the Payment by Results (PbR) market place".

Welsh government refreshing its relationship with the voluntary sector

The Welsh Government have just announced a new consultation, which focuses on refreshing the Welsh Government’s relationship with the voluntary sector in Wales.

The consultation aims to 'strengthen and renew the relationship between Welsh Government and the Third Sector in Wales in an open and collaborative way'.
